Housing in Calle Principe Vergara
Residentials
Madrid, ES - 2003
6000 m2
Completed
The objective of this project was the restoration of a 1923 building, located in one of the most noble areas of Madrid, for housing. The office use over the last few decades had considerably disfigured the interior, both in terms of space organization and original ornaments and materials. The project seeks to recover the lost quality, creating spacious rooms, with exquisite finishes and fulfilling the comfort requirements of the current times.
One of the important points of the work was the recovery of all the architectural and ornamental elements that were preserved. Another essential aspect was the recovery of environmental quality in common areas such as patios, stairs, back garden and car access. Integrated into this strategy, the central courtyard is reclaimed as the main entrance space. Also in the back garden is recovered its vocation of zone of stay, with treatment of pavements, vegetation and a fountain.
An automated underground parking lot was also built, where access to the elevator for the vehicles is carried out by the original garage, located in the pavilion located at the edge of the garden. Lastly, a considerable part of the effort was spent on integrating all the current technical installations, in order to obtain the appearance of a reconstructed building where the depth of the intervention can not be guessed.
