Hotel Memmo Alfama
Hospitality
Lisboa, PT - 2007
2050 m2
Completed
The project is located in the historic center of Lisbon, very close to the Cathedral. The existing building from 19th Century, built on preexistence and attached to the Fernandina fence, was in a profound state of degradation. It was a building composed mainly of very precarious houses located in the main body, and by several buildings for industrial use, without any architectural quality, that adhered to it. The plot was fully- occupied by construction.
The idea was to maintain the geometry and structure of the main body characterized by its complexity and irregular shape and to free the space between it and the wall limit, to conquer exterior space. New volumes and terraces have been designed building places to stay at different levels, creating several outdoor paths.
This fragmentation, of the new volumetry, and the practical inexistence of gaps in the east elevation, allows to camouflage and integrate the building in the formal and spatial structure of Alfama.
The project included interior design and decoration carried out in close collaboration with Memmo. Pieces of furniture designed specifically for this hotel were designed, such as bedroom furniture, dining tables, sofas ... but also the design of bathroom accessories. In short, it is a overall project, where not only architecture was contemplated, but also all its interiors and decoration.
