Rua da Prata
Residentials
Lisbon, PT - 2015
3500 m2
Completed
It is the rehabilitation of two interconnected buildings, at the heart of downtown of the city of Lisbon, in the corner of Rua da Prata and Rua de São Julião. These had two distinct building systems. One, with part of the Pombaline wood structure in a reasonable state of conservation, although with the absence of some front and partition walls on some floors, which occasionally showed deformations in the floors, as a result of these absences and diverse pathologies, both structural and fruit of abundant infiltrations. Another, with a concrete structure, which corresponded to the tallest building. The latter has undergone several expansions throughout its history, giving rise to one of the tallest buildings in Lisbon downtown. The wooden structure of the first building was recovered, reinforced and completed in order to respond adequately to seismic actions. The concrete structure of the second building, revealed an overall good state of preservation, and was repaired and reinforced where necessary.
The building is partially built above a Roman cryptophortic from the time of Emperor Augustus, which, until now, was accessed only through a trapdoor located at Rua da Conceição. The project allowed to enable a space on the ground floor, given to the municipality, to have an exhibition / interpretation space and create a new, more dignified access to the monument.
