Rua Saraiva de Carvalho
Residentials
Lisbon, PT - 2015
1650 m2
In Progress
The project concerns the recovery and conversion of a Palace, located in a plot of 1650m2, in the Estrela area, in Lisbon, which access is made by Rua Saraiva de Carvalho. The intervention in the building resides in transforming a building that previously belonged to a single family, in a program of multi-family dwelling that makes possible its recovery. This is a rehabilitation operation, with the suppression of some of the changes that have been taking place as the new owners adapt to both the financial means and the architectural tendencies of the time and that in a way were distorting the original image of the building.
The intervention intends to preserve the most relevant architectural and decorative features, and for that, a survey of the existing tiles, as well as other elements with patrimonial value that will be maintained, recovered or relocated, taking the maximum advantage of the existing elements.
The Palacete consists of a floor situated below Saraiva de Carvalho Street, ground floor, a first floor and an attic. The roof has rafters with orientation to the south that allow to give usufruct to the previous space of attic. It was proposed the implementation of 4 houses that are developed in duplex typology. The two houses on floor -1 and floor 0, share a part of the existing garden, and the remaining houses, located on floors 1 and 2, enjoy the upper floors with views over the Tardoz garden and the Estrela Basilica.
In what it confers to the facades of the Palacete, they will be recovered and cleaned of dissonant elements, being that the exterior image will be very unchanged. The original colors will be recovered and the wooden window frames will be restored, making only a homogenization in the type of language used in the windows. As for the intervention in the large garden at the rear, it was intended to safeguard all its characteristics with special focus on large tree elements.
