The proposal proposes the creation of the “Jardim da Alfândega”, extending throughout the area of intervention, as a public space that can serve the city and support various uses. The Cruise Terminal appears as one of these uses and not as the only determinant aspect of the intervention. This garden is inserted in a structure of qualified public spaces that extend continuously from Cais do Sodré to Santa Apolónia. This space also assumes itself as the great free space for the slope of Alfama that descends toward the river.
The Terminal Building assumes the approximate shape of a square located in the extreme West of the area available for its implementation, forming a large square bordering the Customs Building. This square will be tree-lined and free of car traffic, building a large living space, equipped with a café and terrace, in close proximity to the water mirror provided, and a playground, enhancing its character as a public garden.
Access to the ships is ensured by a gangway of metal structure along the quay, with an open un-heated passerelle connected to the ships by extension arms, in the number of 4, allowing a great flexibility in the mooring of ships.
